I am an environmental artist who specialises in mixed media and photography. My practice explores the complex relationship between humans and the natural world, and the major impacts that human activity in the 21st century is having on our planet. I hope that my work will educate, raise awareness and inspire people to take action on the ongoing problems with plastic, global warming and mass extinction.
I have recently graduated from Bath Spa University, BA (Hons) Fine Art, and my practice has been fluid and diverse in this period. Addressing environmental issues has not wavered, however, my approach to this broad topic has produced a varied portfolio of work that doesn't confine to just one area of art. Photography, drawing, mixed media, painting, casting, ceramics and printing have all been mediums that I have explored over the past few years. Influential artists such as Olafur Eliasson, Mark Dion, Phoebe Cummings, and many others all have major influence in the way I work, from curation to use of media. Scientific research and the news mostly inform my work; recently Extinction Rebellion have been in the news using public art to inform the public, and coral bleaching headlines have drawn my attention for years.
I believe that scientific facts detailing our destruction to the environment are so overwhelmingly large that it is almost impossible to comprehend. Art can become an emotional mediator between the audience and the subject to help us understand the extent of the damage that we cause - that is what I intend to achieve with my practice.
