ENDANGERED

2018

Pangolin (IUCN: Endangered)  2018. Acrylic paint on canvas, pencil, card.

The IUCN list is a scientific documentation of all the species on this planet and their status of endangerment, categorised into:

  • Data Deficient (DD) ...

  • Least Concern (LC) ...

  • Near Threatened (NT) ...

  • Vulnerable (VU) ...

  • Endangered (EN) ...

  • Critically Endangered (CR) ...

  • Extinct In The Wild (EW) ...

  • Extinct (EX)

This project explores the decline of some of my favourite animals on the IUCN list of endangered species. I have experimented with acrylic paint and mixed medias such as texture gels, card, heat pressed plastic bottles and pencil. The idea was to make a large series of paintings, each a different species titled by their name and their IUCN category. I hoped this would raise some awareness of the vulnerability of our wildlife and encourage more people to act in saving them. This project is more of a proposal, as I never got the chance to complete it. There is a possibility that I will go back to it one day.
